What are your hours?
How long are the sessions?
How do I set up an initial appointment?
You can call (617) 913-2659 or email mohalacw@gmail.com to check our openings, set up a free 15-minute consultation, or schedule your first appointment.
How much do you charge, and how do you accept payment?
My fee is $150 per session for individual counseling, and I accept payment via credit cards and HSA/FSA.
If applicable, I also offer a billing statement for out-of-network benefits. (Please consult the insurance section for more information.)
Do you take insurance?
I don’t take insurance, primarily for your confidentiality and protection.
Using your insurance provider does not guarantee you 100% confidentiality. To cover your therapy, insurance companies require me to provide them with a mental health diagnosis.
As a third-party payer, they also have the right to audit your records at any time and have access to your personal health information, including progress notes and treatment plans.
Using insurance may also carry a future risk. Based on these records, your provider may deny future eligibility to obtain health or life insurance.
However, I offer a monthly superbill that you can submit to your insurance company if your policy provides out-of-network benefits for reimbursement. Please be aware I will need to list a diagnosis on this billing statement for insurance to process.
I recommend calling your insurance company to determine whether your policy includes reimbursement for out-of-network mental health providers and learn more about their reimbursement rates.
What happens if I need to cancel our session?
You may always email me ahead of time to cancel or reschedule a session. Although issues may arise, such as illness or family and work emergencies, I have a 24-hour cancellation policy.
Since I set aside your appointment time especially for you, you will incur a charge for a missed session or a session canceled within 24 hours.
What is telehealth?
Telehealth is another term for online therapy. I use a secure, encrypted, HIPPA-compliant platform that follows health information regulation and patient privacy laws.
It’s simple. You don’t need to download any software or apps to have your video sessions. I’ll send you a link that you’ll continue to use to sign into my waiting room at the start of each session.
Research shows online therapy is just as effective as in-person sessions – with the added flexibility of being able to fit therapy into your day without a commute or time constraints.
What typically happens during a counseling session?
We’ll focus on getting to know you during our first few sessions and identifying your hopes and goals for therapy.
We’ll create an individualized plan to help you meet these goals. To do this, I may ask you to express emotions, reflect, share your thoughts and feelings, consider alternatives, and practice sitting with discomfort.
Although therapy can be challenging at times, I will support you through the entire process.
Do you keep everything we talk about confidential?
Protecting your confidentiality is very important to the therapeutic process and ensures your trust, privacy, and ability to share openly in session. It’s a principal part of my code of ethics as a mental health professional.
I keep everything we talk about in session confidential with a few exceptions: if you are at risk of hurting yourself or someone else or if you disclose any abuse (or suspected abuse) of an elderly person, a child (under 18), or a person with a disability, the law mandates me to report this information to keep you and others safe.
I must also comply with any legal subpoenas; however, this would not happen without your prior knowledge.
What type of tissues do you recommend?
I suggest the classic Kleenex Trusted Care 2-ply tissue to help with some of the more challenging sessions.
If it’s cold or allergy season, you may want to try the Ultra Soft or Soothing Lotion alternatives.
